Rebecca Taylor - The Sketches for Fashion Week
NJ blog…yup, a blog about New Jersey posted an article blog yesterday scooping the fashion world on what to expect from Rebecca Taylor at the upcoming fashion week. Lisa Irizarry of The Star Ledger says that Rebecca Taylor will be going boho for this fashion week. From the sketches, I am seeing less Boho and more bubblegum, though some of the two tops I saw there is a gypsy-ish quality. It was a fashion trend that didn’t want to go away a couple of seasons ago and still is breathing a renewed air today. Click this link for her post.

Fashion Week via Baltimore

Just wanted to make our editor in chief cringe just a little bit today with the announcement of Baltimore fashion week in the news. Obviously she missed the boat 4 years ago when she came to New York because the fashion scene in Baltimore obviously was just coming of age. The fruits of its labor will now be on display with Baltimore’s first fashion week ever (or at least they’re saying so). I tried to get an interview with our editor to see how she felt about Baltimore Fashion Week, but she made herself unavailable for comment. The quite interesting thing about this piece of news is that several designers that we know of come from charm city. Project Runway designer Christian Siriano came from this wonderful place, menswear designer Michael Wesetly as well as Jedda Kahn.
So will Baltimore fashion week become a second tier show? There’s a distinct possibility of that happening. This is especially the case when you think of the talent that has come from the city.

Update: fyi astute reader Melissa Needy pointed out the link to the Baltimore site was wrong, just fiexed that.
In Rio

What did they say about Rio? Was it the style, substance, heat or women that made the fashion all the more real? Whatever it is, the photos coming out of Rio fashion week are nothing less than stunning. Cam-Ling over at iPapier will have more photos from the event. Until now, enjoy my little teaser:
You Need to Read This

When we first received New York Magazine’s Look edition we were indifferent. Then taking it on the train from Manhattan to Brooklyn proved to be one of the best reads post-fashion week. The stats-obsessed, photography loving New York magazine writers pour over every possible detail from fashion week. From following a designer as she gets ready for her fashion show during the day (dropping off her kids, talking to models, before runway and after), to finding out what the limo and car service drivers overhear during fashion week. The mag even asks questions like who is their favorite designer (Calvin Klein wins by a large margin) and if anyone has had sex in the back of their car during fashion week (they become a little less forthcoming with those details).
Definitely a good read if you’re looking to understand the dynamics (and somewhat pleasantly vile underbelly) of fashion week. It is on newstands now.
Los Angeles Fashion Week - Joseph Domingo
So our lead fashion week photographer Anne-Marie is in Los Angeles right now taking in the sights and sounds. LA Fashion week always seems to be the bastardized stepchild of the fashion week season. I was on the phone a day ago with another editor who said something to the effect that the fashion week season ends in Paris. That may be true but this step child is looking to come out of the shadows a bit. Here’s a shot from the Joseph Domingo show at Los Angeles Fashion Week:

Fashion is haunted by trends of seasons past. Normally you’ll find yourself wincing at old photos from an earlier decade when shoulder pads were in. Bell bottoms are now the thing as illustrated by our retro article this month.... [Go]
