Vera Wang Says Yes!

Well she didn’t exactly say ‘yes’, but I did manage to get into the show using some sneaky tactics. I know, I know, I made such a fuss about Vera Wang’s PR people not letting us into the show, (My apologies to the gods and goddesses of fashion, please forgive me), but seriously, I really was upset because I wasn’t invited to see one of my favorite designers. So I did a little manuevering through the crowds pushing their way into the show, and I managed to get past security, the velvet ropes, and find myself a spot near the back.

And I must say, I’m certainly glad I did, because although it’s stressful to be sneaky, the payoff was well worth it. Vera Wang’s spring 2006 collection was pretty extraordinary to see in person. Although she used predominantly dark colors, she mnaged to keep the look of her evening gowns and daywear pieces very spring-like by using long, piecy splices of fabric that flowed as the models walked the runway.

There was an ethereal tone to the show, created by Wang’s use of shimmer combined with light, flowing layers. The most striking element of the show was her use of shiny royal purple for two of her evening gowns. This was the only show that I saw (yeah I know I didn’t see that many shows, but I’ve been to a few) that used this color, and it really stood out among the other designs for the season. It was a fantastic experience, and it really topped off an already incredible week for me and for papierdoll.

Bill Blass Show

Yesterday papierdoll managed to get into probably the biggest name show we’ll get into at Fashion Week this year. I saw Bill Blass in the Tent and it was a truly amazing show. There were some beautiful evening gowns as well as sundresses in pale, shimmery colors and body-skimming, comfortable designs. Blass’ line also showcased some office-wear, including fitted jackets paired with flowing knee-length skirts or skinny capri-length pants. Although the colors were mostly muted, the beauty of the designs was in the detailing. Many of the pieces had intricate prints and subtle sparkle, which added glamour to the designs. And the best part of attending this show was that I got a front row seat! I was supposed to be standing in the back because I’m with papierdoll of course, but I sweet-talked an usher and managed to get a front row seat that some important person didn’t show up for! It made for a spectacular view!

Later in the day I also attended a press conference led by Heather Mills McCartney representing PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), which also took place in the tent. She spoke out against the use of fur in fashion, and warned consumers that fur imported from China is often mislabeled as ‘coyote’ when it is actually made from domestic dogs and cats who are skinned alive. But regardless of what animals are killed for fur garments, it is still inhumane and unneccesary to do so. All of us can be fashionable and still be cruelty-free! (As a life-long vegetarian and animal lover myself, I completely agree with the PETA cause.)

Pictures will be coming soon!

Taking it easy today

Yesterday was a blur with a flurry of activities. The 8pm show zapped us of all our strength as we witnessed a variety of designers showing their wares south of the tent. We will post more information about that show and the designers later today. We head to the Bill Blass show at 11am today and a PETA press conference immediately afterwards . We will be bringing pictures and coverage of both those events. We may probably also attend the Nanette Lepore show in the evening as she is quickly becomming one of papierdoll’s favorite designers.

Stay here for all of Tuesday’s Fashion Weel NYC events.

We Are In!

So today I’m a bit less cynical than yesterday, if not a bit starstruck as well. Not only did we get into two awesome shows today, but I also attended two press conferences and saw Paris and Nicky Hilton walk right past me and pause in the Tent lobby for press photos. It has been a pretty surreal day.

As I mentioned earlier, I attended Joanna Mastroianni’s show which was amazing, and then later I attended Cynthia Steffe’s show, which displayed more muted colors including a lot of black. The whole feel of the show was a bit darker although there were some hints of white and red tones in a few pieces. The first press conference was to advertise Richard Branson’s new wine known as Virgin Vines, and he spoke briefly about it in front of tons of flashing cameras. The second conference was for Kinerase, a line of skincare products. Courtney Cox was there to help advertise and speak for the products because much of the proceeds go to benefit cancer research. I’d tell you even more, but I’m about to go to another show tonight. . . see things aren’t so bad for papierdoll afterall. :)

Photos for these events are coming soon!

Fashion Fun by Danielle Lemoine

Editor’s note: Danielle Lemoine is the photo editor for papierdoll.net, she attended the Indiashio fashion show and reports back in words and picture. Entry follows below.

What better way to kick off fashion week then with a party? On Thursday, September 8th , Brad Batory, founder of Indashio clothing, threw the magazine Lucire a 1st anniversary party at one of Manhattan’s hippest night spots, Crobar, located in Chelsea.

Featured at the event, were previews of Indashio’s 2006 spring line. With a fun theme of pink, models walked out onto to the Crobar red carpet posing for photographs, and modeling Indashio’s latest release of jewelry designs.

In attendance at the event, were Heatherette designer Richie Rich, The Apprentice’s Stacie J., L’oreal model Janine Green, Actress Kim Director, Lucire publisher Jack Yan and many others. Following a paparazzi session with a slew of photographers, Indashio and friends headed into the club to enjoy a night of music and fashion.
