Fashion Week Excitement

Hello everyone!

I am writing to all of you dedicated fashion divas amid piles of clothing and accessories as I pack for my flight tomorrow to New York for the much anticipated Fashion Week! I am excited as well as nervous, as I’ve never covered such a monumental fashion event before. Michelle and I will be keeping you posted on all the shows we attend, what fashion trends we like/dislike, and we may even let you in on some juicy gossip we hear at parties. :)

A show I’m especially looking forward to attending is the the U.S. debut of the Dutch Fashion Foundation’s Mala Van Gaans, Melanie Rozema, and Daryl Van Wouw on September 10. I also can’t wait to see Narcisco Rodriguez’ use of Swarovski crystal beads to add sparkle to simple silhouettes. And who could resist the perks of attending the the Maidenform Dream Bra exhibit at the Bryant Park Hotel, where attendees get a complimentary hand/foot massage or manicure/ pedicure! I can’t wait! As for Vera Wang. . .whatever, we’re too cool to go to that show anyway. Now we have more time to view collections from tons of fresh, new designers.

Hell freezes over

It’s getting cold down here.

Apparently someone at Vera read my previous post and “will get back” to me.

The saga continues…

There are a lot of shows I am looking forward to next week. I think above all though, there is a general excitement. This is Papierdoll’s first appearance at fashion week NYC. The fashion virgin in me expects to be standing a lot, being jostled to the side while [insert well-established fashion magazine/site here]gets ushered past me.

I know I am sounding bitter, but I’m not. Just being there is amazing. Tomorrow, my partner in crime Yael will tell you about her expectations for the week. She’s flying from Seattle, so expect to hear everything. Check out the cool invite to the left.

Vera Wang says NO!

Vera Wang Fall showWell this is supposed to be the first post that starts our blog section and I am already starting it on a negative note. We (my business manager and I) sent out an individual e-mail to every designer showing at fashion week. While most of the response has been positive. A couple of days ago we received our first no. Maybe we’re too small to accomodate an inch of SRO space in the back. Maybe I met Vera somewhere and said the wrong thing. Maybe the PR person doesn’t like papierdoll. But then again, who wouldn’t love us?

So anyway. The text of her response e-mail is below:

“Thank you for your interest in attending the Spring 2006 Vera Wang show on Thursday, September 15th. Unfortunately, due to the limited amount of space we will be unable to accommodate you this season.
Your understanding is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Vera Wang PR Person”

My response was very simple and positive. I figure who knows, they may have an opening across the street in the binocular section for online fashion sites just starting out.

My cheery response:
Thanks Vera Wang Pr Person [from hell]!

Hopefully we’ll make it next year.

Was just kidding about the from hell part. Seriously. I was.

Papierdoll July 2008 Interview

Interview: Thomas Voorn
Sonia Pereira Murphy

Considering the now ubiquitous trend of disposable fashion where all that seems to matter is a cute factor, Thomas Voorn's intellectual take on clothing is not only refreshing, but enlightening. Voorn's fascination with clothing calls to mind an anthropologist intrigued with skeletal remains, a sociologist... [Go]
