Best Birthday Gift Ever

Audrey Hepburn Life Magazine

My very best friend and I have been obsessed with Audrey Hepburn since we were children- we even sing the songs from Funny Face together when we have a case of the “Mean Reds”. So how amazing was it just a week before my birthday she found the LIFE Magazine Tribute to Audrey Hepburn. It remembers her triumphant career and life fifteen years after her unfortunate death due to abdominal cancer, January 20, 1993. This is a must have for any true Audrey fan so look for it at your local book stores and news stands.

Galliano Greetings

There are reasons why every now and again we want to wrap our arms around John Galliano and give him a big hug. How many designers you know create New Year’s greeting cards pour tout le monde?

Fashion Blogging not for Fashion (revisited)

Screaming

A couple of weeks back I posted a random thought that ended up coming out into 2 long paragraphs. I never expected the response from such a wide ranging group of influential bloggers. I guess the first thing that needed to be pointed out is that my publisher’s comments did not reflect my own. I recognize the appeal, need and usefulness of fashion blogging. It gives a voice to many in an industry that I think sometimes ignores what the masses want.

The very fact that I can post my personal thoughts on fashion means that format is bringing something relevant to the fashion discussion. If this medium did not exist I would be a visual merchandiser dressing windows somewhere in Miami. Instead I’m not. It’s cold, it’s New York and I would rather not be anywhere else. So to Runway Scoop, Almost Girl, Gary and the others that sought to set it straight, thanks, I agree.

Youtube and Fashion

Youtube and Fashion

While we’d all love to believe that fashion is flawless, sometimes things happen. With the youtube/instant/in-a-minute generation, the mishaps will be broadcast all over the world in less than an hour, give or take. The latest mishap that made it on the internet air is model Sarah Walsh who fell through a runway during a fashion show. The hole was caused by Shao-Lin Monk performers (never did I think I would write a sentence like that) who engaged in a spectacle before the actual show. Walsh laughs about it now that it has become fodder for the internet, and the jokes don’t end there. There are several fashion bloopers and outtakes from various runway shows and other happenings including: The model who had trouble with her heels, the model whose heel simply fell off (you’ve got to love her though as she kept on walking), Naomi Campbell babbling then going paranoid, Naomi Campbell falling (and no one helps her, ugh), then there’s a whole segment from Fashion Television on the difficulties in walking on the runway. We feel for you girls!!

Fashion Brainfarts

Candy Pratts Price

This is mind-numbingly absurd. I have the utmost respect for Candy Pratts Price, so when I see her as some sort of cute, badly animated cartoon, talking about fashion, I wonder whose idea it was. Try concentrating on the very relevant must haves she’s pointing out for the season when what’s staring you in the face is this Beavis and Butthead imitation. Ugh. Take a look at it for yourself.

Style Prophet: Canadian Designer Leads Fashion's Future
Stephanie Nolasco

At the age of fourteen, Lacy Barry was given a religious premonition of her future with fashion. The word "ephoe," a plural form of the eight ritual garments worn by Jewish high priests, appeared in her dream. Barry, age 24, is the founder of Ephoe Inc., a label whose influences come from lush tropical colors, Audrey Hepburn and Victorian couture... [Go]
