Okay, so you’ve got your nights figured out, but what are you going to do all day Saturday? Recover from the night before, do some laundry, and watch an America’s Next Top Model marathon? Or learn to D.J., take your t-shirt from cast-off to on-trend, and design your own jewerly? Check out C.O. Bigelow and GenArt’s blog party on Greenwich Avenue between Christopher and 10th Street from 2 to 5 p.m. this Saturday. In addition to all the cool eats and activities, there’s family stuff and prizes all to benefit the Children’s Museum of the Arts. Go ahead, become the new MisShapes and help shape children’s lives at the same time.

Papierblog Weekend Planner 8/25 - 8/27
The weekend planner is over, after this weekend summer’s basically done and weekends don’t exist after summer do they? It’s just Monday through Friday with a start back to Monday again. So here’s what i’m looking to do this weekend while away:
Must See: The Emmy Awards pre-show.

See it’s true that the fabulous gowns and menswear is Oscar’s domain only, but the Emmy’s hold their own when it comes to dressing up. Who knows what the stars of the tube, lcd and plasma will be wearing. I’ll be there and hopefully some photographer will send us photos (Sam get on your job!)
Must do: Prada Sample Sale

Oh you didn’t know? Well if you’ve been living under a rock the appoinment only affair ENDS today. So head over to the sample sale website, try to make an appointment and shop like the end of the world is near…or something.
If you miss this sample sale, there are plenty left for the weekend visit Thriftychick for a complete listing.
Must Buy: Trench Coat from Style Violet

So some variation of the military thing is la mode’ for fall. I say go for a trench coat that is inspiration for the look. When you do it go to Styleviolet, they will give you a discount of 15% off of your order when you use code Papierdoll.
Must Read: Style by Kate Spade

Want to know everything about the Kate Spade empire from bags to shoes and everything in-between. This book is your answer. Senior Editor Lisa Radon reviewed it last year in Papierdoll and it still maintains its appeal. A great weekender for you.

Papierblog Weekend Planner 8/18 - 8/20
The summer is almost wrapping up but there’s plenty left to do in the remaining weekends. Here’s what’s on the agenda Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Must See: The Outstanding Art of Television Costume Design

This exhibit at FIDM is all about costume design for television through the ages. Television is such a relatively new media that “through the ages” seems a bit of misnomer. But there were several ages (I guess we’re getting past the reality age now). In any case, this exhibit celebrates costumes and costume design from 1966 to 2006. For our LA readers (the mass of you that send me e-mails about New York only events) this one’s for you.
Directions
FIDM
919 S. Grand Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90015
Must Do: Cantaloup Sale

No Cantalop is not a fruit in this instance. They are selling Iisli, Prairie New York, Sweetface and more with discounts in the area of 80 percent on select items. Um.. did you say sample sales? Click here for more.
Directions:
1036 Lexington Ave., at 74th St. (212-249-3566)
Must Buy: Anything from Starsandinfinitedarkness.com

Ok it’s a ringing endorsement but think about wearing an indie designer’s creation for a fraction of the indie designer price? Between now and September 8th starsandinfinitedarkness.com is offering a 10% discount off of your complete order with code Papierdoll-School.
Must Read: Eat. Shop. Guides.

If you don’t know about the eat. shop. guides. then you don’t know where to to go in your city. These guides give you the best tips without looking like a tourist in your city (or any city that you’re visiting). With glossy photos and intelligent writing, the guides are a resource that you can’t do without when traveling.

Papierblog Weekend Planner 8/11 - 8/13
I’m going to be spending most of the weekend doing mundane things like going to the movies, shopping at the usual suspects and maybe having some sort of dinner thing happening. It’s Friday afternoon and I’m more looking forward to next weekend (can you say Mexico?) than this one. Here’s what’s worth taking a look at this weekend.
Must See- Anglomania:Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion

Catching flack for my Mel Gibson thing last weekend, I’ve decided to bring back the fashion focused theme of the weekend planner. We’ve talked about it, everyone’s contributed something on it and you still haven’t gone to see it. This weekend’s as good a time as any to see English fashions from 1776 to 2006. It’s at the Met Museum in New York. (btw- $20 is the suggested admission fee, I’ve gotten away with giving $15 on those money-light days.
The exhibit ends September 6th.
For more on this click here
Must Do- Back Fashion Cult Sale

This event ends today so you must run run run over there to get their special deals. It shuts down at 6:30pm so a lunch time thing may be in order if you’re in New York. 30% to 50% off designer items is not unheard of.
320 West 37th Street
(btwn. 8 & 9th Aves.)
Suite #9C or Buzzer #22
New York, NY 10018
(212) 563-8383
For more sample sales in New York and LA click here. | See our Thriftychick guide to sample sales here.
Must Read: Hintmag’s Marc Jacobs interview (circa 2002)

He doesn’t give many interviews, but when he does lookout. Perused one of my favorite sites (Hint) and found this interview from 4 years ago. This was about a year after 9/11 (how appropo considering recent events), when the industry was a little less ego-centric than usual. Definitely a good read sometime this weekend.
Must Buy:Burberry Collarless Coat

Burberry just rolled out their fall fashions on their retail website. If you’re doing early fall stocking this coat is an important edition to your collection. I bristled at the whole military look for the fall, but this is one of the few exceptions where I agree. If you have $1400 spare dollars lying around, pick this up.

Papierblog Weekend Planner 8/4 - 8/6
I don’t care if they say it’s getting cooler, it’s effing hot outside. It’s hot this morning, it’s going to be hot this afternoon and it’s going to be hot tonight. The liberal in me is me beginning to think that Al Gore was right. So how am I staying cool this weekend? I’ll be thinking of fall and fashion to do that. So without further delay, here’s the weekend planner:
Must See: Mel Gibson’s drunken night photos

Although no one likes to see a train wreck, for some reason we can’t help but look. When Mel Gibson starts blaming a religion/race/nationality for the all the wars in the world, while driving drunk, you have to just look in awe. Lance Bass must be pissed as his stunning announcement is now on page seven. No, Papierblog is not going celebrity.

Must Do: Arrive Summer in the City Sale

This is looking to be a can’t miss sale
Where: 33 Howard street between Broadway and Crosby
New York, NY
11am to 8pm
For the rest of the sample sales ending this week click here.
——————————–
Must Read: Emilio Pucci

Papierdoll’s own Lisa Radon recommends this as a must read and who am I to disagree? If you’re going to be on the beach this weekend (where else would you be?), take this page turner with you. Read Lisa’s review here.
———————————
Must Buy: Biotherm Sunfitness Gentle Lotion For Body SPF 30 5.07 oz

Remember how I was saying that it’s hot? The sun is beating down on your skin and you’re going to need protection. Biotherm’s Sunfitness Gentle Lotion For Body SPF 30 5.07 oz will help protect your skin. This is not to say you can be out the sun all day with this on, nothing provides that kind of protection; but you will be safer with this spf 30 product.
Now shut down your computer and let the weekend begin. See you next week!
