Ohhh Patricia

I won’t say a thing about Patricia Field’s new collection. Ok I’ll say a couple of words only because as a blogger I am afforded the luxury of speaking my mind when it is ok to do so (meaning all the time). I watch HSN from time to time and it’s a grab bag of [...]

The Truthi–ness of Zufi

Zufi Alexander handbag

To use hip-hop vernacular, Zufi Alexander is “the truth”. Word. Her collection of bags will make women scream in delight like little school girls and there’s no reason not to. Alexander’s collection has been a staple for high end fashion lovers in Asia for quite some time. Her collection has grown from a handful -to an army of handbags, clutches, hobos and accessories the discerning lux collector will want for their handbag library.

I found her by accident. A forward from Sam led me on my travels to Zufi and I couldn’t get off her site. Every bag was better than the next. There was a decidedly Asian feel to them, I couldn’t quite put my hands on what it was that made these bags feel like I haven’t seen it before. The stitching, the use of colors and the material used (check out the ostrich bag), all say that Alexander’s bags are going to be around for awhile. There’s sustainability in the design. See her complete collection here.

Who is 365?

365 images

I’ve received about 4 e-mails about 365. 365 is a new Ready to Wear line. This thing is so mysterious and tightly wrapped that when asked direct questions, the PR people say “all will be revealed at the event tonight”. I haven’t been this stoked since the return of Heroes, did they save the cheerleader, what happened to Sylar? The show might have jumped the shark for me with evil Claire, but I digress. The event pic, shown above, tells me that there is a Burberry-like quality to the collection, but aside from the interesting trench, I can’t tell a whole lot.

The astute readers out there are normally quick to give a blog writer with her nose embedded in a closet, some insight as to who or what 365 may be. If you know and are willing to tell me, before I go to this event, don’t hesitate, play the role of spoiler now.

U O Me

Urban Outfitter

click for full image

Urban Outfitters is impressing the heck out of someone here at Papierblog, namely Eva. Now I know she dominates the posting here, but her obsession has gone overboard. First it was the t-shirts, then it was the skirts she’d wear all the while talking about all types of high-end designers. So I’m imploring her to talk about her love of Urban Outfitters. There’s nothing wrong with sharing it with friends. Especially if you’re looking for the latest and greatest from their Fall stuff.

Maybe that’s the problem with fashion blogging. The latest and greatest always means something that comes from Paris, Milan and not your around the corner store here in the states. This doesn’t mean that I’m advocating a trip to Forever 21 for the latest in “innovative” fashion, but I do think we’re missing the boat here.

Hussein Chalayan’s Renaissance via Paris

Hussein Chalayan

According to Hussein Chalayan, Spring is going to be beautiful in an edgy way. The photos coming from his runway presentations speak volumes. One of the things editors here constantly say is that no matter how amazing a designer’s creation looks in photos, it is normally nothing compared to being there in person. That being said, Chalayan pieces look the prettiest in photos. This is more so the case considering how he constructed each dress. This alludes to the fact that he hand painted parts of the collection, his use of molded latex to create a sort of aerodynamic suspended animation look.

Hussein Chalayan

It’s what you go to Paris for, if you had the means, method and opportunity. This Spring collection is going to be what we clamor for in the dredges of Fall and Winter.

How to Get into Rick Owen’s Show - You Don’t

Rick Owens

As if being part of the next iteration of fashion wasn’t hard enough, a recent blog post at our international blog on Lenny Kravitz’s troubles at the Rick Owen’s show was less than welcome news. How so? Here’s how so. During the Rick Owens show, Lenny Kravitz had a pretty difficult time negotiating security just to get in and see Owens’ collection. He’s a celebrity, so he gets what he deserves right? uhh… Not so fast. Vogue editors apparently had a fun time trying to get in as well. Ok, so if the celebrities had a hard time, the press had a hard time, heck even some buyers had a hard time getting in to the show, who was in there?

Methinks that Marc Bouwer’s online presentation may have been the way to go for Mr. owens. The question remains though: who was at the show? Apparently there was a first come first serve situation with the rsvp, and then there was also a “preferential” who’s closest to us think going on as well. It’s all well and good, but you have to wonder what Owens’ handlers were thinking not even allowing Vogue editors into the show. That is according to Style. But I am comforted to know that Sarah Mower and even the New York Times’ Cathy Horyn were able to make it in. Every now and again you get your access rights pulled by someone who doesn’t like your review.

In the end Lenny Kravitz was snuck past the security guards a’la Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible and was able to see an essentially Egyptian infused collection. Bravo for Lenny Kravitz.

Calvin Klein Does it Again

Calvin Klein

Flip open the pages of any fashion magazine and you were likely to see the latest creation from Calvin Klein. The party in New York during fashion week was tight (or so I hear from those who attended), and now the Fall collection graces the racks of stores. It’s not just denim insiders at the company will say they are trying to push this season. It is everything. In terms of fashion, the season is going to be a success. A pick from the Calvin Klein collection is this knit with ribbed detailing along the edges and at the neckline.
